Box Score

Ewing, NJ… The College of New Jersey field hockey team remained the lone undefeated team in New Jersey Athletic Conference play on Tuesday as the Lions edged rival Rowan University 3-0 at Lions' Stadium.

The win was the fifth straight for the third-ranked Lions as they improved to 8-1 overall and 2-0 in the NJAC. The loss was the third in the last five games for the 13th-ranked Profs with all three of those defeats coming against ranked opponents. Rowan is now 5-4 overall and an even 1-1 in the conference.

The Lions got the early jump on the Profs as senior defender Colleen Dougherty (Atco, NJ/Hammonton) jumped into the play and one-time a loose ball past Rowan keeper Amanda Cucinotti (Voorhees, NJ/Cherry Hill East) for a 1-0 lead. That goal came 7:28 into the game and was the second straight game Dougherty has scored for TCNJ.

It didn't take long for the hosts to double their lead as senior Sheri Grondski (Mercerville, NJ/Nottingham) scored off a pass from Jackie Gelinas (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) on a penalty corner. That goal came 3:29 after Dougherty had opened the scoring.

Gelinas later played a big role on the defensive end of the field as she took away a sure Rowan goal with a defensive save off a shot from Rowan's Kimberly Brozosky (Richwood, NJ/Clearview Regional). That play came with just under 12 minutes remaining in the first half.

TCNJ added a third goal just 1:04 into the second half as junior Katie Reuther (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) knocked in her team-leading seventh goal of the season.

Grondski secured the shutout in the final minutes making a defensive save on shot by Jennifer Lipnickey (Chester, NJ/West Morris-Mendham).

In goal for the Lions, junior Caitlin Gregory (Winslow, NJ/Eastern) made four saves to collect her fourth shutout of the season.

Cucinotti finished with four saves for Rowan.

The Lions are back in action on Saturday, October 6 at Susquehanna University, while the Profs are also on the road playing at Eastern University.
