Seniors lead TCNJ past Gothic Knights

Ewing, NJ… The College of New Jersey women's soccer team moved one step closer to wrapping up the top seed in the upcoming New Jersey Athletic Conference Tournament as the Lions handled visiting New Jersey City University, 10-0 on Saturday.

Third-ranked TCNJ is now 7-0-1 in the conference and Wednesday's season finale at Rowan University will determine the top spot in the upcoming NJAC Tournament. Overall, the Lions are 14-0-1.

The loss knocked the Gothic Knights to 7-10 on the season and 0-8 in the conference. NJCU also wrap up its season on Wednesday with a home game against Rutgers-Camden.

The Lions have never lost to the Gothic Knights winning all 13 meetings between the schools.

Prior to the game, TCNJ honored its seven seniors for their hard work and dedication to the program. Recognized before the game were Lori Adriance (Hazlet, NJ/Raritan), Toni-Anne Cavallo (Cedar Grove, NJ/West Essex), Kristen Cubicciotti (North Haledon, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy), Dana DiBruno (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East), Courtney Krol (Howell, NJ/Howell) Jennifer Olszewski (Brick, NJ/Brick Memorial) and Beth Pagano (Trenton, NJ/Notre Dame).

It was the seniors who got the Lions going right from the start as Cubicciotti scored 3:37 into the game and then junior Jamie Kunkel (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) made it 2-0 just 1:22 later with DiBruno picking up the assist.

DiBruno and Kunkel teamed up for TCNJ's next goal switching rolls with Kunkel getting her team-leading 13th of the year and DiBruno setting up the goal.

The Lions added three more goals before the intermission with Pagano, Cavallo and Melissa Martin (Skillman, NJ/Montgomery) each scoring making it a 6-0 margin.

In the second half, the Lions tacked on four more goals with Adriance, Erin Cunliffe (Lakewood, NJ/Lakewood), Krol and Cavallo each scored.

The senior class made the most of their final home game combining for seven goals and two assists.

Sophomore keeper Jessica Clarke (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) stopped the lone Gothic Knight shot on goal.

In goal for the Gothic Knights, Kelly Reilly (Pennsville, NJ/Pennsville Memorial) had a busy game making 15 saves.
