Wayne, NJ... Fifth-ranked The College of New Jersey field hockey team netted a big conference road win on Saturday as the Lions shutout William Paterson University, 4-0.
TCNJ remained undefeated in New Jersey Athletic Conference play with a record of 3-0, while moving to 12-2 overall. The loss put the Pioneers at 3-2 in the conference, and 10-5 overall.
Freshman Leigh Mitchell (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) scored the game's first goal when she converted a Katie Reuther (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) pass during a penalty corner, giving TCNJ a 1-0 edge with 25:50 remaining in the first half. Sixteen minutes later, Jenny Lubin (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) struck a ball from Jackie Gelinas (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) into the back of the cage, making it a 2-0 Lion advantage.
Mitchell scored her second goal of the game just 56 seconds into the second half off an assist from Jessica Falcone (Cherry Hills, NJ/Camden Catholic). TCNJ pushed ahead 4-0 nine minutes later when Reuther scored off of a corner, thanks to an assist from Ashleigh Pecherski (Middletown, NJ/Middletown).
Pioneer goalie Christina Auger (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills) made six saves, while Caitlin Gregory (Winslow, NJ/Eastern) had one stop for the Lions.
