Men's soccer falls to No. 2 ranked Messiah, 2-1 in 2 OT's

Ewing, NJ… The College of New Jersey men's soccer team hosted the three-time defending NCAA Division III Champions, Messiah College on Saturday in TCNJ's Soccer Complex. The game would go to Messiah 2-1 in the second period of overtime. Ranked No. 2 in Division III, Messiah triumphed for the 11th straight time on the 2007 season as they beat TCNJ, snapping the Lions' seven-game unbeaten streak. Messiah is now 11-1 overall and the Lions, who are ranked No. 21 fall to 8-2-3.

Messiah's freshman Nick Thompson (Hudson, OH/CVCA) scored both goals for the Falcons as he snapped a 1-1 tie with his third goal of the year at 107:06.

Messiah broke a scoreless game open with a goal from Thompson at 64:58 on a feed from senior Patrick Lenehan (Highland, IN/Illiana Christian). The goal was the first of the game and the second of the fall for Thompson. The two would hook up again for the game winning shot in the second period of overtime. Lenehan now leads the Messiah team with his 17 points on six goals and five assists.

Minutes later, TCNJ would get on the scoreboard as a Messiah player had a handball in the box awarding TCNJ a penalty kick. Sophomore forward Kevin Luber (Delran, NJ/Delran) converted his first penalty kick of the season for his seventh goal and tied the score at 76:31. Luber now leads TCNJ with his 21 points on seven goals and seven assists, which brings his career total to 25 points in 29 games played as a Lion.

In net for the Lions, senior Steve Scuttellaro (Brick, NJ/Brick Memorial) made 11 saves, while Messiah's junior Nick Blossey (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBoef) made 4 saves in the outing.
