TCNJ earns NJAC Championship with two wins on Saturday

Mahwah, NJ…The College of New Jersey's women's tennis team wrapped up the 2007 NJAC Championship on Saturday after sweeping the Pioneers of William Paterson University, 9-0 and Ramapo College, 9-0. With Saturday's two victories, TCNJ is now 5-0 overall and 5-0 in the NJAC. With the win, TCNJ's women's team has now won 121 consecutive NJAC matches dating back to the fall of 1982. TCNJ swept the NJAC this fall once again to win the program's 25th consecutive NJAC Champion.

Against the Pioneers, TCNJ did not drop a single game as they swept WPU 9-0. They then travelled north to the campus of Ramapo College and recorded their second win on the day as they beat Ramapo, 9-0. WPU drops to 1-5 overall and 0-3 in the NJAC, while Ramapo is now 7-3 overall and 2-1 in the NJAC. Overall TCNJ is now also riding an 11-match regular-season win streak which dates back to March 31, 2007.

TCNJ's senior Christina Contrafatto (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East) went 4-0 on the day after collecting two wins in singles and two wins on doubles. Sophomore Jackie Shtemberg (Franklin Lakes, NJ/Ramapo) added a win at No. 1 singles and two wins on the day at first doubles with Contrafatto, while freshman Amanda Berg (Mendham, NJ/West Morris-Mendham) added two singles wins including one at No. 1 singles and a pair of victories at No. 2 doubles as well as TCNJ dominated the NJAC this fall posting five wins by virtue of 9-0 decisions.
