Ewing, NJ… The College of New Jersey women's soccer team tallied a 7-0 win over Farmingdale State
College in the first of two NCAA Division III Regional Games held at TCNJ's Soccer Complex on Saturday.
Eastern University beat Salisbury University 1-0 in the second contest on Saturday to set the stage for
Sunday's NCAA Division III Regional Championship Game. TCNJ will host Eastern University at 1 p.m. on Sunday in the regional championship game.
GAME #1 TCNJ 7-0 Farmingdale State (Box Score)
With the victory, TCNJ improved to 18-0-1 on the year, while the Rams of Farmingdale State University end their season at 13-8-1. For TCNJ, the win in the NCAA's puts the Lions at 39-13-3 lifetime in the NCAA's while Farmingdale State is now 0-1 in the NCAA Championships.
TCNJ led 5-0 at the half and cruised to the 7-0 win as senior
Dana DiBruno (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East) became TCNJ's all-time career leader in the contest as she collected a goal and two assists in the match and now has 134 career points on 54 goals with 26 assists. She moved ahead Traci Tapp (1995-1998, 58g, 16a, 132 tps).
Junior
Coleen Weber (Mullica Hill, NJ/Woodstown) provided the game-winner as she struck first at the 9:57 mark on a feed from senior midfielder
Kristen Cubicciotti (North Haledon, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy). The goal for Weber was her sixth on the fall and her fourth game-winning tally.
Junior
Jamie Kunkel (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) would net a pair of goals in the contest to lead the Lions with her four points, while both DiBruno and senior
Courtney Krol (Howell, NJ/Howell) would tally penalty kick goals to pace TCNJ on the day.
TCNJ's sophomore goalie
Jessica Clarke (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) shared in the shutout win with junior
Amy Hashem (West Windsor, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro). Clarke recorded just one save on the day to help the Lions tally their 15th shutout of the season.
Farmingdale opened play with three straight attacks on the Lions' goal with two corner kicks to open the
match, but proved unworthy for the No. 3 ranked Lions. Farmingdale State's sophomore goalie
Kimberly Sontag (Lynbrook, NY/Lynbrook) made 7 saves in the match.
GAME # 2 Eastern University 1-0 Salisbury University (Box Score)
Eastern University scored only one goal, but that was all the Eagles needed as they made the most of their first appearance in the NCAA Division III Tournament.
Sophomore forward
Jill DiRenzo (Galloway, NJ/Abesgami) converted the early cross from junior forward
Chrissy West (Centennial, CO/Denver Christian) as the Eagles led 1-0 at the 2:13 mark. DiRenzo's goal was her 25th of the year and her seventh game-inner.
Despite several opportunities from both teams, no additional goals were added in the match.
