Lions advance in NCAA action with 2-0 win

Jessica Clarke added another strong effort in goal for the team's 16th shutout.

Ewing, NJ… The College of New Jersey women's soccer team tallied a 2-0 win over Eastern University
in the NCAA Division III Regional Championship game held at TCNJ's Soccer Complex on Sunday afternoon. With the win TCNJ has advanced to the round of sixteen at a site to be determined by the NCAA next weekend. TCNJ is now 19-0-1 on the year, while Eastern's season comes to an end after a 19-4 mark. 

TCNJ will now compete at a sectional in Virginia on the campus of Lynchburg College. The Lions will face Washington University (MO) as they advanced with a 3-0 win over Denison University. Emory University will face the host Lynchburg in the other contest.  TCNJ's game versus Washington will take place at 1 p.m. on November 17, while the Lynchburg Emory contest is a 3:30 p.m. match-up. The two winners will meet on November 18 at 2 p.m. for the right to move on to the national semifinals in Orlando, Florida.

TCNJ jumped out to a 1-0 lead when senior midfielder Kristen Cubicciotti (North Haledon, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy) converted the feed from junior Laura Delaney (River Vale, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy) and senior Courtney Krol (Howell, NJ/Howell) off a corner kick at 5:26. The goal was the fifth of the fall for Cubicciotti and her third game winner of the year. Sophomore Briann McDonough (North Arlington, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy) added a goal at 31:30 on a pass from senior Dana DiBruno (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East). In the Lions' first NCAA tournament game of the 2007 tournament, DiBruno became TCNJ's all-time career leader and continues to add to her career record that now includes 54 goals and 27 assists for 135 points.

TCNJ's sophomore goalie Jessica Clarke (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) recorded her 10th solo shutout of the year and the Lions' 16th of the fall as she turned away four of the shots she faced on the afternoon.

Eastern's junior goalie Amanda Daveler (Langhorne, PA/Neshaminy) took the loss as she turned away 13 of the 25 shots she faced and is now 13-4 in goal.
