Klimowicz connects on double-double to lead Lions

Ewing, N.J – The College of New Jersey hosted Rutgers University-Camden on Thursday night in Packer Hall and tallied a convincing 71-52 win. TCNJ improves to 12-13 overall and 7-6 in the NJAC, while RUC drops to 8-16 overall and 2-10 in the league.

Sophomore center Hillary Klimowicz (Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains Fanwood) added 12 of her 16 points in the first half and hauled down 11 rebounds to pace the Lions in the regular-season finale. Klimowicz shot 6-9 from the floor and a perfect 4-4 from the line, while also connecting on five blocks to pace the Lions.

TCNJ led 34-22 at the break as both team shook off a poor early game shooting performance. The first points of the game were scored by TCNJ at 16:30, while it was not until 11:52 when the Scarlet Raptors scored as TCNJ had jumped out to a 13-1 lead.

Sophomore guard Alyssa Michelle (Washington Township, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy) added a career-high 11 points off the bench as well to help TCNJ, while junior Sara Best (High Bridge, NJ/Voorhees) added 10 points as well.

Rutgers-Camden was led by junior guard Imani Hafiz (Franklinville, NJ/Delsea Regional) as she connected for 16 points, while junior forward Carmen Oyola (Hammonton, NJ/Hammonton) chipped in 10 points for the Scarlet Raptors. Junior guard Krystal Jankowski (Somerdale, NJ/Triton) led her squad with nine rebounds.

Rutgers-Camden will close the 2006-2007 season on February 17 hosting Kean University in a 1:00 p.m. NJAC match-up.

Next up for the Lions in the 2007 NJAC Women’s Basketball Playoffs as the Lions will travel to face the No. 2 seeded team in the North Division on Tuesday, February 20 at 7:00 p.m. at the home court of the Lions’ opponent, which has not been set as of yet. The 2007 tournament appearance for the Lions is the 12th straight under head coach Dawn Henderson who is in her 14th year at TCNJ. A year ago, the Lions captured the 2006 NJAC Championship and with it the NJAC’s automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. Under Henderson, the Lions have won three NJAC championships, including two of the last three years.
