Ewing, NJ…The College of New Jersey men’s tennis team hosted Washington College on Friday afternoon in TCNJ’s Student Recreation Center. TCNJ, which is ranked No. 10 in the ITA Northeast Region, tallied an 8-1 win over the No. 11 ranked team from the South Atlantic Region. TCNJ is now 3-0 on the young season, while WC is now 0-1.

At No. 1 doubles, TCNJ’s junior Michael Klimchak (Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) and junior Roger Mosteller (Medford Lakes, NJ/Shawnee) were also victorious as they bested knocked off Washington’s senior captain Arturo Solis (Guatemala, Guatemala) and sophomore Rafael Roldan (Quito, Ecuador), 8-2. Ranked No. 13 regionally in doubles, TCNJ’s No. 1 doubles pair is now 9-2 together this season with a 3-0 mark in dual meet competition, while the Shoremen duo drops to 7-2 on the season.
Klimchak added another win on the day as he picked up a win at No. 1 singles in three sets (4-6, 6-2, 6-1) over two-time All-American Solis, who last season finished the year ranked No. 4 in Division III after falling in the semifinals of the 2006 NCAA Division III Singles Championships. Klimchak is now 9-1 in singles competition on the season and 49-9 on his Lions’ single career.
WC’s sophomore Brian Danver (Bethany Beach, DE/St. Albans) teamed with sophomore Todd Green (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) to record an 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles of TCNJ’s senior Corey Ball (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern) and junior Eric Ferriere (Branchville, NJ/Kittatinny).
Mosteller was victorious at No. 2 singles as well with his 6-0, 6-2 victory over
Roldan and holds an 8-2 singles mark on the year.
TCNJ hosts Vassar College on Saturday, February 24 at 1p.m., while Washington College returns to action on March 3 hosting Methodist College.
