Lions Triumph and dominate in 159-78 win over WPU

 

Ewing, NJ…The College of New Jersey’s men’s and women’s swimming teams competed on Saturday hosting William Paterson University. TCNJ’s men’s team picked up a 111-78 win to improve 6-3 overall, while WPU drops to 7-4. TCNJ’s women’s squad recorded a convincing 159-78 win over the Pioneers to improve to 2-8 overall and moved WPU to 10-3 on the season.

Women’s Highlights
TCNJ’s women’s team snapped an eight match losing skid on Saturday to post the win over the Pioneers. TCNJ won all but one event at the meet, the 400 freestyle relay.


TCNJ’s senior diver Lee Swanson (Princeton Junction, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro South) diver won both one and three meter diving events. In the one meter event she recorded a score of 231.60 and posted a 232.20 to take home first in the three meter event.

Junior Ava Kiss (North Brunswick, NJ/Stuart Country Day) won the 500 freestyle in 5:18.61, the 50 freestyle in 25.50, and was part of TCNJ’s first place 200 medley relay team that posted a time of 1:56.95.

Teaming with her on the 200 medley were junior Christine Marino (Scotch Plains, NJ/Mt. St. Mary’s Academy), junior Lauren Pfeifer (Freehold, NJ/Red Bank Catholic), and junior Kristin Udicious (Cherry Hills, NJ/Gloucester Catholic). Marino also won the 100 back for the Lions in 1:04.59.

Sophomore Sara Casciano (Hewitt, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy) was a double winner as well for the Lions, taking first in the 1000 freestyle in 11:45.37 and the 200 individual medley in 2:24.09.

Sophomore Brittany Collyer (Forked River, NJ/Lacey Township) won the 100 breaststroke in 1:13.23 as well as the 100 freestyle in 57.6, while senior Kerry Genese (Hamilton, NJ/Notre Dame) captured the 200 freestyle for TCNJ in 2:04.83.

Sophomore Stacy Delehanty (Oceanport, NJ/Shore Regional) won the 200 backstroke in 2:22.31, while freshman Christina Falcone (Newtown, PA/Notre Dame) captured the 100 butterfly in 1:02.74. Freshman Julianne Clapp (Allentown, PA/Parkland) won the 200 breaststroke in 2:38.07 and finished second in the 200 IM in 2:28.18.

Junior Caitlin Elmendorf (Medford, NJ/Shawnee) picked up the gold in the 200 butterfly to lead the Lions as she recorded a time of 2:19.97.
