Ewing, NJ… Richard Stockton College men’s basketball team recorded a 66-58 win over The College of New Jersey on Wednesday night in Packer Hall to improve to 16-7 overall and 7-4 in the NJAC. With the loss, the Lions drop to 11-12 overall and 4-7 in the conference.
After the two teams were tied at 10-10 with 14:11 left to play in the first half, the Ospreys went on a 14-0 run and opened the game as the lead 24-10. RSC would take a 32-21 halftime lead into the locker room as junior guard Mario Lancioni (Runnemede, NJ/Triton) paced his team with 16 points. He was 6-7 from the floor in the first session as his team hit a blistering 60.0% of their shots (12-20) and held the Lions to a 30.0% effort from the floor (9-30). He finished with a game-high 18 points, while sophomore Jerome Hubbard (Neptune, NJ/Neptune) added 16 points with eight rebounds, two assists and three blocks for the Ospreys.
Junior forward Jon Greene (Wildwood, NJ/Wildwood) added nine points and nine rebounds for RSC, which finished the contest shooting 64.3% (9-14) from three point range.
TCNJ opened the second half on an impressive run and pulled within four, 45-41 with 8:32 left to play, but the Ospreys were hot from three-point range and did not miss a single shot from three-point range until 3:55 left in the game after hitting their first five three-point baskets.
TCNJ’s junior Corey Gilmore (South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) added 14 points after pouring in 10 in the second half of play and was an impressive 7-11 from the floor. TCNJ’s junior forward Mark Aziz (Hackettstown, NJ/West Morris) added 14 points as well for the Lions, while he and senior guard Brian Halligan (Delran, NJ/Delran) added six boards a piece in the setback.
On the night, the Lions forced 23 turnovers, while committing only seven but were held to a 17.4% effort from three-point range (45-23).
