Fredericksburg, VA… The College of New Jersey’s women’s lacrosse team recorded a 13-9 road win over the Eagles of No. 9 ranked University of Mary Washington on Saturday. With their win, TCNJ, which is ranked No. 2 in Division III, is now 5-0 overall and winners of 18 consecutive games dating back to 2006. UMW drops to 9-3 on the season.
TCNJ led 7-5 at the break and held a 37-18 advantage on shots for the match-up. Junior
Toni-Anne Cavallo (Cedar Grove, NJ/West Essex) led the Lions with her four goals and an assist, while and
Karen Doane (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) added three goals and an assist as well. With those three goals, Doane now has 101 for her career in 40 games.
In net for the Lions, junior
Caitlin Gregory (Winslow, NJ/Eastern) came up with another strong performance in net as she finished with eight saves to improve her record in the cage to 5-0. UMW’s junior goalie
Meredith Deitrick (Mountain Lakes, NJ/Mountain Lakes) finished with 17 saves in the loss, while the Eagles got four goals from senior
Meaghan O’Leary (Westbury, NY/Carle Place), while junior
Caitlin Erickson (Cypress, TX/Cy-Fair) tallied two goals and three assists in the game.
TCNJ will put their perfect season and 18-game win streak on the line when they travel to cross state rival, Rowan University for a 7:00 p.m. match-up with the Profs on April 4 in Glassboro, NJ.
