Game 1 Box Score

Game 2 Box Score

Ewing, NJ… Rowan University overcame deficits in both games of a doubleheader as the Profs took two games from The College of New Jersey softball team on Sunday at Lions’ Park.

The Profs pulled out a 5-2 victory in the first game and then scored three times in the bottom of the seventh to earn the sweep with a 3-2 win in the second contest.

The two losses square TCNJ’s overall record to 14-14, while falling to 4-10 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. Rowan, which has won a modest four straight, is now 21-11 on the season and 9-5 in the conference.

Game 1: Rowan 5, TCNJ 2
Pinch-hitter Amanda Brown (Audubon, NJ/Audubon) singled up the middle to score Heidi Smith (Hainesport, NJ/Rancocas Valley) with the deciding run in the top of the sixth as Rowan took the lead for the first time on their way to the win. The Profs tied the game at 2-2 earlier in the inning as Kristin Wallace (Glassboro, NJ/Washington Twp.) scored on a wild pitch.

The Profs added a pair of insurance runs in the seventh as Smith drove in both runs with a double to center field.

TCNJ opened the scoring in the bottom of the third with a run as Jess Kohut (Hillsdale, NJ/Pascack Valley) singled to left field scoring Danielle Hagel (Egg Harbor City, NJ/Oakcrest).

Rowan knotted the score at one two innings later as Jamie Assini (Deptford, NJ/East Brunswick) plated Stacy Haas (Florence, NJ/Florence Twp.) with a double to right.

The game didn’t remain tied for long as the Lions pulled back in front in the bottom of the inning as Hagel raced home from first on a double just inside the bag at third by Tara Harrigan (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) making it a 2-1 game.

Hagel finished a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate for the Lions.

Rowan’s Amanda Riegel (Millville, NJ/Sacred Heart) went the distance for the Profs to garner her 10th win of the season.

Game 2: Rowan 3, TCNJ 2
TCNJ broke up a scoreless pitching dual in the top of the sixth as Katie Davenport (River Edge, NJ/River Dell Regional) scored on a Rowan miscue and then Hagel later scored stealing home on the front end of a double steal making it 2-0.

Rowan then scored all three of its runs in the last of the seventh. Assini got aboard with a walk and Lauren Navarro (West Milford, NJ/West Milford) followed with a single. A walk to Wallace then loaded the bases. A TCNJ error allowed Assini to score and Kim Ryan (Monmouth Jct., NJ/South Brunswick) delivered a single to tie the game at two runs apiece. Wallace then scored the winning run on a wild pitch giving the Profs the sweep.

Danielle Lawlor (Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) allowed only four hits to improve to 11-5 on the season for Rowan.

Heather Hoffman (Annandale, NJ/Immaculata) suffered the loss for the Lions as she also saw her scoreless inning streak come to an end at 20.1 innings.

Hagel finished with two hits for TCNJ for her third straight multi-hit performance.

The Lions return home to host Rutgers University-Newark for a doubleheader on Tuesday, April 24, while the Profs head to Rutgers University-Camden on that same day to take on the Scarlet Raptors.
