Pomona, NJ... Osprey pitchers Jessica Ricciuti (Toms River/Msgr. Donovan) and Kaitlyn Corica (Iselin/JFK) led Richard Stockton (13-5, 2-2 NJAC) to a sweep of College of New Jersey (10-8, 0-4 NJAC) by scores of 2-1 and 2-0 in an NJAC doubleheader today. Ricciuti pitched a two-hitter and gave up one unearned run in the opener, and then Corica tossed a six-hit shutout with six strikeouts in the nightcap.
In game one, Jen Hughes (Huntington Station, NY/Walt Whitman) walked and scored an unearned run in the fourth inning and TCNJ held a 1-0 lead entering the bottom of the seventh. Jessica Williams (Bayville/Central Regional) ripped an RBI double with one out to tie the game 1-1 and Melissa Baumgartner (Audubon/Audubon) stroked a pinch-hit RBI single with two outs to give Stockton the 2-1 victory.
Samantha Horner (Newfield/Buena) went 2-3 with a double for Stockton in the game. TCNJ pitcher Julianne Lajiness (Monroe Twp./Notre Dame) allowed just two runs on five hits with six strikeouts but was out-dueled by Ricciuti.
In the fourth inning of the nightcap, Melissa Kerr (Laurel Springs/Highland) smacked an RBI double and then scored on an RBI single by Baumgartner for the only runs of the game. Kerr finished the game 1-3 with a double, a run and an RBI. Corica pitched her third shutout of the season to improve her record to 6-2. Ellen Seavers (Ridgewood/Ridgewood) went 2-2 at the plate for TCNJ.
Stockton will host Polytechnic (NY) in a non-conference doubleheader on Thursday at 3 pm. College of New Jersey will host Kean for an NJAC twinbill on Saturday at 1 pm.
