Ortiz fans 11 as Lions beat RSC, 7-4

Ewing, NJ…Ranked No. 13 in the latest ABCA Division III poll, The College of New Jersey’s baseball team tallied a 7-4 home win on Thursday over Richard Stockton College in NJAC play. With the win, TCNJ is now 14-6 overall and 2-2 in the NJAC, while RSC drops to 14-6-1 overall and 2-2-1 in the league.

TCNJ’s right handed senior pitcher Blake Ortiz (Swedesboro, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) fanned 11 batters in eight innings of work as he improved to 3-1. Senior Dave Waseleski (Lawrenceville, NJ/Lawrence) collected his first save of the season after closing out the ninth inning with one earned run off one hit with a strikeout.

Offensively for the Lions, senior third baseman Matt Zonies (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) went 1-3 at the plate with two RBI’s and a double, while senior Jeff Botti (Avenel, NJ/Colonia) went 4-4 with an RBI and a pair of doubles. Senior PJ Anzelone (Vernon, NJ/Vernon Township) added a triple as TCNJ managed to collect 12 hits off RSC’s four pitchers.

RSC’s freshman Matt Allen (Salem, NJ/Woodstown) went 1-3 with a solo homerun in the seventh inning, while junior Pat Goodwin (Mays Landing, NJ/Holy Spirit) went 3-5 with a run scored, an RBI.

Additional support was turned in by junior Joe Sacerdote (Deptford, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) as he had two doubles and was 2-3 with an RBI in the game.

Freshman Joe Mihalyi (Hamilton, NJ/Nottingham) took his first loss of the year and is now 2-1 after four innings of work with six earned runs off 10 hits with a strikeout.
