Ewing, NJ…The College of New Jersey’s men’s tennis team posted an 8-1 win over Swarthmore College on Friday night in TCNJ’s Student Recreation Center. With the win, TCNJ is now 8-1 overall, while Swarthmore falls to 1-7. The Lions currently hold a No. 9 regional ranking in the ITA’s Northeast Region.
Ranked No. 15 nationally in singles, TCNJ’s junior Michael Klimchak (Clark, NJ/Johnson), recorded a 6-1, 7-5 win over junior Jonathan Lo (Honolulu, HI) to improve to 14-2 on the year.
Klimchak teamed at No. 1 doubles with junior Roger Mosteller (Medford Lakes, NJ/Shawnee) to beat Swarthmore’s Lo and senior Jonathan Reiss (Rockville Centre, NY/South Side), 8-4. The Lions’ No. 1 doubles pair is ranked 10th regionally this spring and with Friday’s victory is now 15-2 overall with a 9-0 dual meet record on the 2006-2007 season, while boasting an impressive 18-0 dual meet record together over the past two seasons.
With his win on Friday at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-0 over freshman Brian Nalitt (Short Hills, NJ/Millburn), Mosteller is now 13-3 this season, while junior Eric Ferriere (Branchville, NJ/Kittatinny) was a winner for the Lions at No. 3 singles to boast his season mark to 15-3 as well.
Swarthmore’s freshman Willy Nolan (Portland, OR/Grant) was the lone winner for the Garnets at No. 4 singles as he beat senior Corey Ball (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern), 6-2, 6-4.
