Lions tally 1-1 tie with Ramapo in NJAC opener

For the second straight time, The College of New Jersey men's soccer team tallied an overtime tie. This time it came in the Lions' NJAC opener as they faced Ramapo College. The two teams played to a 1-1 overtime tie. TCNJ is now 4-1-2 and 0-0-1 in the NJAC, while Ramapo is now 5-0-1 overall and also 0-0-1 in the conference.

After a foul inside the 18-yard box, the Roadrunners were awarded a penalty kick 14 minutes into the game and rookie Giuseppe Trani (Wayne, NJ) capitalized on the foul giving the Roadrunners a 1-0 edge. Just under ten minutes later the Lions were awarded a PK but sophomore Ian Tighe (Wyckoff, NJ) came up strong blocking the shot taken by senior midfielder Joey McGinley (Cranford, NJ/Cranford). The two teams headed into the intermission tied at one. TCNJ's sophomore Kevin Luber (Delran, NJ/Delran) tied the scoring with his third goal of the season at 31:50 on a feed from freshman Andrew Lampitt (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West).

Each team had multiple opportunities in the final 65 minutes but were unable to hit the back of the net finishing the game tied at one a piece. TCNJ out shot Ramapo 8-6 in the first half and Ramapo bounced back in the second ripping 11 shots over TCNJ's six. The Lions ripped five combined in the overtime periods to Ramapo's three.

Tighe finished the game with 12 saves while senior netminder Steve Scuttellaro (Brick, NJ/Brick Memorial) blocked 12 for TCNJ.

Ramapo returns to action on Wednesday, September 19th when they continue NJAC action traveling to New Jersey City University for a 4:00 PM start. The Lions square off with Richard Stockton on Wednesday ta 7:00 PM in Pomona, NJ.
