TCNJ opens NJAC play with 5-0 win over Ramapo

Ewing, NJ… The College of New Jersey women's soccer team kicked off conference play with its fourth consecutive shutout as the Lions handled visiting Ramapo College by the score of 5-0 on Saturday.

The victory puts the second-ranked Lions at 5-0 on the season and 1-0 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. The loss knocked the Roadrunners to 0-1 in the NJAC and 4-3 overall.

TCNJ grabbed the lead early as freshman Casey Caruso (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) tallied her first collegiate goal 9:28 into the contest with a low shot inside the far post. That tally came on an assist from Briann McDonough (North Arlington, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy).

McDonough continued her torrid scoring streak at 18:07 into the game marking the third straight game she has scored at least one goal. In the last three games, McDonough has racked up five goals and four assists.

The Lions tacked on three more goals in the second half with junior Coleen Weber (Mullica Hill, NJ/Woodstown) getting the first of those before senior Courtney Krol (Howell, NJ/Howell) cashed in on a direct kick from the top of the penalty area with 9:27 remaining in the game. The final goal of the game with just under six minutes remaining as freshman Gina Colati (Pennington, NJ/Hopewell Valley) became the second Lion to net her first collegiate goal of the game knocking a shot in off of the cross bar.

In goal for the Lions, Jessica Clarke (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) picked up her second shutout of the season making three saves.

For Ramapo, Jessica DaRold (Sayreville, NJ/ Sayreville War Memorial) finished with 10 saves.
