Pomona, NJ--- – The College of New Jersey (5-1-2, 1-0-1 NJAC) got a breakaway goal from sophomore Kevin Luber (Delran, NJ/Delran) at 77:42 on a pass from Ryan McMahon (Cranford, NJ/Cranford) that proved to be the game-winner in the Lions' 2-1 win over conference foe Richard Stockton (4-2-1, 0-2 NJAC) tonight. The Lions snapped a three-game winless streak and dealt Stockton its second straight loss. Senior goalkeeper Steve Scuttellaro (Brick, NJ/Brick Memorial) allowed just one marker and made one save to earn the win.
The scoring opened in the first half at 19:59 on a header by Craig Langan (Kings Park, NY/ Kings Park) assisted by Joey McGinley (Cranford/Cranford) that put the Lions in front 1-0, a lead they would have at the half.
Down 2-0 late in the second half after Luber's tally, Stockton got a goal from Sean McCallum (Vineland, NJ/Vineland) on an assist from A.J.Colubiale (Cape May, NJ/Lower Cape May) at 82:07 to cut the lead in half. The Ospreys threatened in the final minute and got the apparent game-tying goal on a header by Rafael Duarte (Ocean City, NJ/Ocean City) with 28 seconds remaining, but the scoring play was negated by an offside call and TCNJ prevailed 2-1.
Stockton goalkeeper Matt Hart (Dayton, NJ/South Brunswick) made two saves and was forced to leave the game due to injury in the second half. Tim McKenna (Sewell, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) replaced him in net for the final 12:53 of the match.
Stockton will be at William Paterson for an NJAC on Saturday, September 22 at 5 pm. TCNJ is back at home on Saturday at 1 pm for a league match against Montclair State.
