Molloy sets two school marks as Lions fall to JHU and WCU

The College of New Jersey's men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed in a two-day tri-meet with Johns Hopkins University and Division II West Chester University on Saturday. The Lion men and women were both handed a pair of losses from the high ranked opponents as the Lion men had their perfect season and seven meet unbeaten streak come to an end. On the men's side of things, JHU beat TCNJ 237-91, while West Chester University posted a 225-105 win. TCNJ is now 4-2 on the season. TCNJ's last dual meet loss came at the hands of Johns Hopkins a year ago, 184.5 to 165.5 on January 20, 2007.

In the women's meet, JHU tallied a 222-93 win over the Lions, while WCU posted a 219-94 win. TCNJ is now 1-6 on the season.

Among the highlights for the Lions on the day was a pair of school records sets by TCNJ's rookie Margaret Molloy (Toms River, NJ/Toms River East) as she added her name to the 1,000 freestyle and the 1,650 freestyle records. Competing in the 1,650 freestyle, Molloy posted a time of 17:56.58 to win the event as she bested the Lions' previous mark of 18:05.65 (Lauren Wurster, 2000). Her time of in 10:53.58 in the 1,000 free in the splits of the event also bettered TCNJ's school record also set by Wurster in 2000 (10:56.35).

Molloy also added a first place showing in the 500 freestyle as she won the race with her time of 5:11.23.
Senior Lauren Pfeifer (Freehold, NJ/Red Bank Catholic) captured the title in the 100 breaststroke in 1:10.51. She also took sixth in the 50 freestyle in 26.22, while adding to the Lions; lineup in the relays.
TCNJ picked up second in the 200 medley relay in 1:53.69 behind the efforts of junior Stacy Delehanty (Oceanport, NJ/Shore Regional), Pfeifer, senior Ava Kiss (North Brunswick, NJ/Stuart Country Day), and freshman Michele Wilson (Millville, NJ/Millville).

In the 800 freestyle relay, the Lions took third in 8:11.22 behind the efforts of Kiss, senior Kristin Udicious (Cherry Hill, NJ/Gloucester Catholic), Molloy, and sophomore Stephanie Seto (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert). The Lions added a fourth in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:44.74 as Seto, Wilson, Pfeifer and freshman Melissa Wallace (Metuchen, NJ/Metuchen) all teamed. Another strong showing for the Lions was in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:48.53 as Seto, Kiss, Pfeifer and Molloy combined for the third place finish.

Kiss took second in the 200 individual medley in 2:16.27, while taking third in the 100 freestyle in 55.20. Molloy took fifth in the 100 freestyle in 55.94.

In the 200 breaststroke, freshman Katie Morgan (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) placed third in 2:34.50, while adding a fourth in the 100 breaststroke in 1:11.64.

In the 200 freestyle, senior Stefanie Rashti (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) took seventh in 2:04.12, while Seto added a seventh in the 400 individual medley in 4:56.72.

Sophomore Christina Falcone (Newtown, PA/Notre Dame) picked up sixth in the 100 butterfly in 1:02.80, while Delehanty added a sixth in the 100 backstroke in 1:05.12.

For the divers, TCNJ's sophomore Jessica Lynch (Thorofare, NJ/West Deptford) picked up fourth in the three meter event in 123.35, while adding a fifth in the one meter event with her score of 112.7.
