Despite two first place finishes by Ava Kiss, the Lions drop a meet to NYU

New York, NY…The College of New Jersey's men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed at New York University on Saturday, but had their win streak halted as the Violets posted a pair of wins. NYU's men tallied a 167.5-132.5 win as TCNJ drops to 5-3 overall, while the women's meet was also captured by NYU as they posted a 169-128 win over TCNJ. The Lion women are now 2-7 on the season.

Among the highlights for the Lions at the meet were a win in the 1,000 freestyle by rookie Margaret Molloy (Toms River, NJ/Toms River East) as she posted a time of 10:48.30. She added a second in the 100 freestyle in 55.65 and a second in the 500 freestyle in 5:16.54.

Senior Ava Kiss (North Brunswick, NJ/Stuart Country Day) won the 100 freestyle after posting a time of 54.76 and added another win as she captured the 100 butterfly in 58.88. She was also part of the Lions' first place 200 freestyle relay foursome that had a time of 1:42.49 in the race. Teaming on the relay were freshman Michele Wilson (Millville, NJ/Millville), sophomore Ashley Robb (Blackwood, NJ/Gloucester Catholic), senior Lauren Pfeifer (Freehold, NJ/Red Bank Catholic), and Kiss. TCNJ took second in the 200 medley relay in 1:53.74 as senior Christine Marino (Scotch Plains, NJ/Mt. Saint Mary's Academy), Pfeifer, Kiss and Robb teamed up.

Robb added a second place finish in the 50 freestyle in 26.00, while Pfeifer took second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:10.10. Marino took home third in the 100 backstroke in 1:05.63 and the 200 backstroke in 2:19.08.

In the 200 individual medley, TCNJ took first through third as freshman Stephanie Seto (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) won the event in 2:19.35, junior Brittany Collyer (Forked River, NJ/Lacey Township) took second in 2:21.32 and junior Sara Casciano (Hewitt, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy) took third in 2:23.88.

Freshman diver Amanda Obst (Cape May, NJ/Lower Cape May Regional) took second in the three meter with a score of 199.57 and a fourth in the one meter event with a score of 151.96.
