Grantham,, PA…In a showdown of highly-ranked field hockey programs, fourth-ranked Messiah College used its home-field advantage to slip past top-ranked The College of New Jersey on Saturday by the score of 3-1.
The loss brought an end to TCNJ's seven-game winning streak dropping the Lions to 12-2 on the season. With the win, Messiah improved to 12-1.
TCNJ got the early jump on the Falcons as senior Jackie Gelinas (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) notched her third goal of the season only 1:22 into the contest.
Messiah used a pair of goals in a span of just over two minutes apart late in the first half to take a 2-1 lead into the break.
The Falcons then scored again in the early stages of the second half making it a 3-1 game.
For the Lions, goalie Shannon Syciarz (Garwood, NJ/Arthur L. Jackson) made a career-high 10 saves.
TCNJ is back on the field on Tuesday, October 28 heading to Kean University for its final New Jersey Athletic Conference contest of the season. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
