Union, NJ…The College of New Jersey clinched its third straight New Jersey Athletic Conference title as the Lions rolled past host Kean University by the score of 4-0 on Thursday.
The win over the Cougars was TCNJ's 18th straight conference win and also secured the NJAC's automatic qualifier to the 2008 NCAA Division III Tournament. TCNJ finished the conference slate with a perfect 6-0 mark and are 13-2 overall.
The loss knocked Kean to 3-1 in the NJAC and 13-4 overall.
The Lions set the tone early as senior Jenny Lubin (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) scored on a feed from freshman Alex Okuniewicz (Toms River, NJ/Toms River South) 3:43 into the game.
Sophomore Leigh Mitchell (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) then knocked in a pair of goals in a 10-minute span with both of those markers being assisted by senior Jackie Gelinas (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central).
Okuniewicz closed out the scoring in the opening half with her 12th goal of the season coming with one second showing on the clock as the Lions led 4-0 at the break.
For the Lions, goalie Shannon Syciarz (Garwood, NJ/Arthur L. Jackson) picked up her third shutout of the season without facing a shot.
TCNJ returns to action on Sunday, November 2 hosting 12th-ranked SUNY Cortland in a 1 p.m. start in Lions' Stadium.
