Baltimore, MD… The College of New Jersey remained undefeated on the road this season as the Lions posted a 3-0 shutout at Johns Hopkins University on Sunday.
That win put sixth-ranked TCNJ at 8-1 on the season and 4-0 away from Lions' Stadium. The loss was the first of the season for the third-ranked Blue Jays as they saw their school-record 11-game winning streak halted falling to 11-1.
TCNJ didn't waste any time grabbing claiming the lead as senior Jackie Gelinas (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) knocked in her second of the season 5:53 into the contest.
The Lions would extend that lead later in the period as Gabby Cafone (Fairfield, NJ/West Essex) scored unassisted with 15:15 remaining before the break.
The lone goal of the second half came from sophomore Leigh Mitchell (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) as she scored her team-leading seventh of the year. That goal was assisted by senior Katie Reuther (Toms, River, NJ/Toms River North).
Freshman goalie Shannon Syciarz (Garwood, NJ/Arthur L. Jackson) picked up her second shutout of the season making six saves.
The Lions return to New Jersey Athletic Conference play on Saturday, October 11 heading to rival Rowan University to take on the Profs in a 7 p.m. start.
