Oneonta, NY… The College of New Jersey wrestling team crowned three individual champions and had two others reach the finals as the Lions placed second at the Oneonta State Invitational on Saturday.
The Lions, which are ranked 15th in the latest Brute – Adidas National Wrestling Coaches Association Division III poll, finished with 128.5 points trailing only 13th-ranked SUNY Cortland (157.5) in the 11-team field.
It was an all TCNJ final at 149 pounds as junior Tyler Branham (Newton, NJ/Kittatinny) edged teammate John Barnett (Oak Ridge, NJ/Jefferson Township) by the scoer of 3-1. Branham went a perfect 5-0 in the tournament with Barnett picking up four wins.
TCNJ also had both wrestlers in the final at 157 pound as senior Dan DiColo (Budd Lake, NJ/Mt. Olive) slipped past freshman Joe Falco (Ocean, NJ/Ocean Township) by the score of 5-1.
The final champion for the Lions was at 174 pounds as senior Greg Osgoodby (Waldwick, NJ/Waldwick) won all four of his matches with two of them coming by fall another by technical fall. Those four wins keep him undefeated on the season at a perfect 12-0.
Adding to the strong team finish with third-place finishes were freshman Anthony Rizzolo (Wenonah, NJ/Deptford) at 141, Justin Bonitatis (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East) at 165, and freshman Ed Broderick (Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Regional).
TCNJ returns to dual meet action on Wednesday, December 3 hosting King's College in a matinee at Packer Hall with a 4 p.m. start.
