Ewing , NJ –The College of New Jersey men's soccer team placed one player on the 2008 New Jersey Athletic Conference Men's Soccer All-Star Team, while two others were named to the Second Team and two more earned Honorable Mention status for the Lions. TCNJ finished the 2008 season with a 9-9-2 record and earned a spot in the New Jersey Athletic Conference Championships as the No. 5 seed. The post-season appearance for the Lions was the third in the last four years.
Junior forward
Kevin Luber (Delran, NJ/Delran) was named to the First Team after finishing his third campaign as the Lions' leading scorer with 26 points on nine goals with eight assists. He ranks sixth in the NJAC with his points, eighth in points per game with 1.3, while ranking seventh in goals per game with 0.45 and fifth in assists with eight. On his career, Luber has now started 50 of 55 games played with 20 goals and 18 assists. He has 58 career points and four game-winning goals, including two this year.
Senior
Chris Nelan (Barrington, NJ/Haddon Heights) was named to the Second Team after enjoying a career-best campaign that saw the forward tally six goals with two assists. His 14 points was second best on the 2008 team and he leads the Lions with his four game-winning goals. His four game-winning goals this fall ranks third highest in the NJAC. Nelan wraps his career having played in 57 games while tallying nine goals three assists for 21 points.
Joining Nelan on the Second Team was junior midfielder
Anthony Staropoli (Raritan, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan). On the year, he finished with one goal and an assist for three points. On his career, he has now played in 51 games with three goals, six assists and 12 points.
Sophomore midfielder
Phill Cunha (Milford, NJ/Immaculata) and junior back
Adam Dorflinger (Sergeentsville, NJ/Hunterdon Central) earned Honorable Mention honors. Cunha played in 18 games this season with two goals and an assist, while Dorflinger played in all 20 games and anchored the Lions' defense. He added the game-winning goal as the Lions downed SUNY-Cobleskill this fall and helped TCNJ record seven shutouts on the fall. TCNJ's defense yielded just 1.42 goals per game and recorded wins over two nationally ranked teams this season, while playing No. 2 ranking Messiah to a 1-1 overtime tie this year.
