Lion men's swimmers still perfect with win over Owls

New Haven, CT…The College of New Jersey's men's swimming and diving team was in action on Sunday at Division II Southern Connecticut State University. The Lion men collected their fifth win on the season as they beat the Owls 162-120.

Sophomore Tom Medvecky (Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway) and junior Myles O'Connor (Santa Monica, CA), were both double winners for the Lions and were part of a first place relay team as well to pace their squad to the win.

TCNJ's men's team opened with a win in the 200 medley relay as senior Tom Nawrot (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick), junior Myles O'Connor (Santa Monica, CA), sophomore Tom Medvecky (Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway), and sophomore Shawn Kirchner (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) posted a winning time of 1:35.07.

Medvecky won the 200 butterfly in 1:56.99 and the 100 butterfly in 52.43 and picked up a second in the 1,000 freestyle in 10:13.68. O'Connor won the 100 breaststroke in 57.82 and the 200 breaststroke in 2:10.54.

Sophomore Tim Rauch (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) won the 1000 freestyle in 10:07.19 just ahead of teammate.

Rookie Mike Vernoia (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) captured a first in the 200 freestyle in 1:43.60 and the 500 freestyle in 4:45.90. Nawrot added a second in the 100 backstroke in 53.46.

Lion rookie Ryan Clark (Ocean City, NJ/St. Augustine) won the 50 freestyle in 21.75, while Kircher added a win for the Lions in the 100 freestyle in 48.12. Nawrot was right behind him in 48.14 to take second place on the day.

TCNJ's sophomore Joe Tseng (East Hanover, NJ/Hanover Park) added a second for the Lions in the 200 backstroke in 1:55.83.

In the three meter diving event, freshman TJ Burns (Clarks Summit, PA/Abington Heights) picked up first with a score of 212.15, while junior Ryan Kearney (Hillsdale, NJ/Pascack Valley) took third with his score of 121.85.

TCNJ returns to action on Friday, November 21 for a road match-up at Division II Bloomsburg University in a 5 p.m. dual meet.
