Ovieda, FL… The College of New Jersey wrestling team had a successful opening day at the Brute/Zac Jarzynka Sunshine Wrestling Classic in Florida on Sunday as six Lions advanced to the semifinal round.
The semifinals are slated to get underway at 9 a.m. on Monday. The two-day tournament features 10 teams with five teams ranked in the latest National Wresting Coaches Association Brute – Adidas Division III poll, with TCNJ being one of them ranked 15th.
The Lions have two grapplers alive in the winner's bracket at 149 pounds as junior Tyler Branham (Newton, NJ/Kittatinny) and sophomore John Barnett (Oak Ridge, NJ/Jefferson Twp.) each advanced to the semis.
TCNJ also has two remaining at 197 pounds as sophomore Adam Koziol (Paramus, NJ/Paramus) and freshman Ed Broderick (Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Regional) both won all of their matches on Sunday.
Sophomore Justin Bonitatis (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East) is another semifinalist at 165, while senior Greg Osgoodby (Waldwick, NJ/Waldwick) also has a shot at the title at 174 pounds.
