Phoenix, AZ… The College of New Jersey women's basketball team dealt the University of La Verne its first loss of the season as the Lions rolled to a convincing 72-41 victory on Monday at the Grand Canyon Trip Sports Classic in Arizona.
The win puts TCNJ at 6-3 on the season, while the Leopards fell to 6-1.
The Lions excelled at both ends of the floor shooting 58 percent from the floor, while limiting La Verne to only 24 percent shooting for the game.
Senior Hillary Klimowicz (Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood) led a balanced attack for TCNJ as she netted 20 points on 10-for-12 shooting from the floor. The center is now just 17 points shy of becoming 12th player in program history to hit the 1,000-point plateau.
Sophomore Kelsey Kutch (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) had a balanced effort with 15 points, six rebounds, four assists, three steals and two blocked shots, while Alexandra Gregorek (Mahwah, NJ/Academy of Holy Angels) added nine points. Adding to the win with eight points apiece were senior Alyssa Michella (Washington, Twp., NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy) and sophomore Stephanie Prall (Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon).
The Lions are right back in action taking on the Lesley University in a 2 p.m. start on Tuesday in their second and final game in the tournament.
