Camden, NJ… The College of New Jersey women's basketball team ran its winning streak to a season best seven straight as the Lions handled host Rutgers University-Camden, 84-46 on Saturday.
TCNJ started the day tied with Kean University for the top spot in the New Jersey Athletic Conference South Division, but eighth-ranked Kean University fell at Rowan by the score of 78-75 giving the crown to the Lions. By winning the division title, TCNJ, which finished the season 20-5 overall and 11-2 in conference play, earned a bye in the opening round of the NJAC Tournament and will begin its quest for a second title in the last three years on Wednesday, February 27 against an opponent to be determined on Monday.
On Saturday, the Lions took control early racing out to a 41-9 lead at the half, while limiting the Scarlet Raptors to only 6.5 percent shooting (2-for-31) in the opening 20 minutes.
At the other end of the floor, TCNJ had five players score in double figures led by a career-high 24 points from junior Hillary Klimowicz (Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood). The center also grabbed 10 rebounds for her 19th double-double of the season.
Junior Alyssa Michella (Washington Twp., NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy) and freshman Kelsey Kutch (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) each added 15 points, while sophomore Alex Gregorek (Mahwah, NJ/Academy of Holy Angels) chipped in with 13 points and 10 rebounds. The final TCNJ player to reach double figures was junior Lisa Koch (Oak Ridge, NJ/Jefferson Twp.) netted 11 points.
