Balanced scoring sparks TCNJ to victory

Elizabethtown, PA… The College of New Jersey's women's soccer team received goals from four different players as the Lions roared past New York University 4-0 in their opener on Saturday, August 30 in the first round of the Elizabethtown College Blue Jay Classic.

The Lions, which are ranked third in the NSCAA Division III pre-season poll, conclude the tournament on Sunday taking on Christopher Newport University in a 1 p.m. start.

TCNJ got its first goal from Casey Caruso (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) with an assist from Jamie Kunkel (Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape). That goal came 20:53 into the contest.

The Lions doubled the lead with 4:39 remaining before the intermission as Jillian Casey (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern) tallied.

In the second half, TCNJ tacked on two more goals with Gina Colati (Pennington, NJ/Hopewell Valley) getting the first and Julianne Delorenzo (Yardville, NJ/Pennington Prep) got the second. Freshman Maria Grady (Sewell, NJ/Our Lady of Mercy Academy) earned her first collegiate point on Delorenzo's goal with an assist.

Sophomore keeper Katie Piotrowski (Rahway, NJ/Rahway) picked up the shutout in her first start for TCNJ and made a pair of saves.
