Box Score

Elizabethtown, PA… The College of New Jersey's women's soccer team exploded for three goals in the first 12 minutes of the second half to break open a one-goal game as the Lions got past Christopher Newport University by the score of 5-0 on the second day of the Elizabethtown College Blue Jay Classic on Sunday.

The Lions finished the classic-format tournament a perfect 2-0 and outscored the opposition by a 9-0 margin. The team excelled at both ends of the field allowing only a pair of shots on goal in 180 minutes of soccer, while receiving goals from eight different players.

Next up for the third-ranked Lions will be their own TCNJ Adidas Classic slated for Saturday, September 6 and Sunday, September 7 at TCNJ's Soccer Complex. On the first day of the upcoming tournament, the hosts will take on Amherst College and then face 13th-ranked Ithaca College on the final day. Both of those games are slated for 11 a.m.

Against CNU, the only goal of the first half came from senior Laura Delaney (River Vale, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy) netted what turned out to be the game winner on an assist from freshman Nikki Miglioro (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert). That goal came with 3:12 left remaining before the half.

The Lions carried that one-goal lead into the second half and quickly added to it. Senior Erin Cunliffe (Lakewood, NJ/Lakewood) made it 2-0 with an assist from Jamie Kunkel (Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape) 4:55 into the new frame before Coleen Weber (Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Regional) added another just over four minutes later. Assisting on Weber's goal was junior Melissa Martin (Skillman, NJ/Montgomery).

The goals kept coming for the Lions as Casey Caruso (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) netted her second goal of the tournament 11:59 into the half with Kunkel picking up a helper. The final goal of the game came midway through the period as freshman Maria Grady (Sewell, NJ/Our Lady of Mercy Academy) notched her first collegiate goal, while Migliori garnered her second assist of the game on the play.

Junior goalie Jessica Clarke (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) didn't face a shot as she collected her 25th career shutout.
