Purchase, NY… The College of New Jersey field hockey team rolled to its fourth straight win as the Lions posted a 6-0 shutout at Manhattanville College on Saturday.
The second-ranked Lions are now 4-0 on the season, while the loss dropped the Valiants to 1-2.
TCNJ exploded for four goals in the opening half as senior Katie Reuther (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) got things going with her first of the season. Sophomore Leigh Mitchell (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) made it a 2-0 game before freshman Alex Okuniewicz (Toms River, NJ/Toms River South) added another goal for the Lions. Junior Gabby Cafone (Fairfield, NJ/West Essex) gave the Lions a comfortable 4-0 scoring with 47 remaining in the opening period.
In the second half, Okuniewicz added her second marker of the game on a penalty stroke and Mitchell closed out the scoring knocking in rebound midway through the period.
Goaltenders Shannon Syciarz (Garwood, NJ/Arthur L. Jackson) and Sammi Brach (Belle Mead, NJ/Montgomery) combined on the shutout with Syciarz making one save and Brach had four.
TCNJ has a break in the schedule as the team doesn't play again until Saturday, September 20 when they are at FDU-Florham to face the Devils in a 1 p.m. start.
