Box Score

Ewing, NJ… The College of New Jersey women's soccer team used a goal late in the second half to keep its impressive unbeaten streak against New Jersey Athletic Conference opponents en tact as the Lions rallied to force a 1-1 tie with rival Rowan University on Wednesday.

The win extended TCNJ's, unbeaten streak in conference play to 38 games going 36-0-2 in that span. The Lions also remained unbeaten against Rowan in the all-time series at 13-0-2.

The 14th-ranked Lions are now 5-1-1 on the year and 1-0-1 in the NJAC, while 23rd-ranked Rowan is also 1-0-1 in the conference and 6-0-1 overall.

TCNJ's tying goal came off of the foot of senior Jamie Kunkel (Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape) with 16:36 left in regulation. Setting up the goal was junior Kristina Shemming (Cranbury, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro South). That goal was also the first allowed this season by the Profs.

The teams then battled through the rest of regulation and a pair of 10-minute overtimes before finishing in a draw.

TCNJ came within inches of pulling out the win as sophomore Julianne Delorenzo (Yardville, NJ/Pennington Prep) sprung free for a shot from close range, but Rowan keeper Sarah Volkomer (Glen Rock, NJ/Glen Rock) made a sprawling save to preserve the tie. That sequence came with just over a minute left in the second overtime.

Rowan forged ahead in late in the opening half as sophomore Jess Babice (Groveville, NJ/Steinert) carried the ball up the near wing into TCNJ's penalty area. She then slid a pass over to junior Mandy Silvestri (Turnersville NJ/Washington Township) who scored. That goal came with 10:48 remaining before the break.

In goal for the Lions, junior Jessica Clarke (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) finished with six saves.

Volkomer also turned aside six shots for the Profs.

The Lions continue their conference slate on Saturday hosting Montclair State University at 4 p.m. in TCNJ's Soccer Complex. Rowan remains on the road heading to William Paterson University on Saturday for a 1 p.m. start.
