11th Ranked men's soccer teams plays to a 1-1 draw

Madison, NJ…The College of New Jersey men's soccer team fresh of its first national ranking of the 2008 season, traveled to Drew University for a non-conference match-up with the Rangers. Ranked 11th in Division III, TCNJ played Drew to a 1-1 overtime tie. TCNJ is now 2-0-1, while Drew also stands at 2-0-1.

TCNJ would jump out to a 1-0 lead when junior Kevin Luber (Delran, NJ/Delran) converted a feed from sophomore Phill Cunha (Milford, NJ/Immaculata) at 31:33. The Lions took the 1-0 lead into the break before Drew's senior Alex Degernes (Charlotte, NC/Providence Day) tied the action at 54:28. The two squads played two overtime periods of scoreless action resulting in the tie. Luber has taken the lead in the Lions' 2008 scoring race as he now has six points on three goals, elevating his career numbers to include 14 goals, 10 assists and 38 points.

In net for the Lions sophomore Eric Goldwaser (Wyckoff, NJ/Indian Hills) made six saves in the match and allowed just one goal in 110 minutes of work. Drew's sophomore Jeff Rogers (Eldersburg, MD/Century) picked up three saves with a goal allowed.

TCNJ will host TCNJ's Soccer Classic next as teams will visit Lions' Stadium on Saturday and Sunday, September 6-7. The first match-up of the tournament features New Jersey City University facing the College of Mt. Saint Vincent on Saturday at 1 p.m., while the host Lions will face SUNY-Cobleskill at 3 p.m. the same day. Action continues on Sunday as NJCU will meet SUNY-Cobleskill at 1 p.m. and TCNJ will take on the College of Mt. Saint Vincent at 3 p.m.
