Ewing, NJ… The College of New Jersey and Ithaca College women's soccer teams each came away with victories in the abbreviated TCNJ Adidas Classic on Sunday. The third-ranked Lions knocked off Amherst College by the score 5-1, while Ithaca scored late in the second half to slip past Eastern University, 3-2.
The two-day tournament was cut in half due to Hurricane Hanna with Saturday's games being washed out.

The Lions (3-0) scored four times in the second half to break open a tie game and remain undefeated on the season.
With the game knotted at one at the start of the final period, sophomore Casey Caruso (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) put in a rebound putting TCNJ in front for good. That goal came 9:33 into the new half. It was also her third straight game with a goal.
Freshman Brenna Rubino (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern) made it a 3-1 with her first collegiate goal on an assist from Erin Cunliffe (Lakewood, NJ/Lakewood) on a corner kick. TCNJ cashed in another corner kick with 12:49 left in the game as senior Jamie Kunkel (Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape) redirected the free kick into the Amherst net. Picking up the assist on the play was Gina Colati (Pennington, NJ/Hopewell Valley).
The final goal of the game with just 15 seconds remaining as freshman Eva Gimello (Langhorne, PA/Neshaminy) scored the first goal of her career.
In the first half, the Lions struck first as Kunkel kicked in a cross from Rubino 17:49 into the game. Amherst (0-1) came right back to tie the game just over five minutes later as Livia Rizzo (Dover, MA/Dover Sherborn Regional) scored after slipping behind TCNJ's defense. Earning an assist on the play was Jillian Whiting (Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson).
Junior keeper Jessica Clarke (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) earned her second win in as many starts without having to make a save.
Amherst keeper Lili Ferguson (Winnetka , IL/New Trier) collected seven saves for the Lady Jeffs.

Ithaca's Winnie Adrien (Seldon, NY/Blairstown Academy) drilled a shot into the upper corner of the net with 9:41 remaining to lift the Bombers to the win.
That goal capped an offensive second half with all five goals in the game coming in the final 45 minutes.
Eastern (0-3) scored 8:42 into the half as Ashley Heckman (Perkasie, PA/Christopher Dock) scored her first of two goals of the game.
The Bombers (1-0-1) got the goal right back Adrien knotted the game at one with an assist from Chelsey Feldman (Hewlett, NY/Lynbrook) 3:38 later.
Heckman put the Eagles back in front with 26:12 left in the game with a low shot that found the corner of the net.
Ithaca pulled even once again as Amy Scheffer (Schalmont, NY/Schenectady) headed in a direct kick off of the foot of Andrea Janda (West Boylston, MA/Sterling) with 23:09 left on the clock setting up Adrien's game-winner.
Ithaca keeper Alyssa Sotomayer (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) earned the win making eight saves, while Eastern goalie Amanda Daveler (Langhorne, PA/Neshaminy) finished with seven.
