TCNJ tops rival Rowan for eighth straight victory

GLASSBORO, NJ – The College of New Jersey women's basketball team extended its win streak to eight games with a 73-60 victory over Rowan University on Wednesday night.

Guard Alyssa Michella (sr. Washington Twp., NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy) led the Lions with a career-high 21 points. Michella nailed seven of the team's 11 three-pointers. Forward Kelsey Kutch (so. Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) contributed with 19 points. Michella and Kutch each grabbed seven rebounds. Forward Hannah Tait (fr. Staten Island, NY/Notre Dame Academy) added a career-high 12 points and guard Nicole Diaz (jr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) dished five assists.

TCNJ has a record of 11-3 with a 3-1 mark in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. The Profs are 7-7 overall and 1-4 in the conference. 

For Rowan, forward Jessica Nimbley (jr. Middletown, NJ/St. John Vianney) totaled 20 points and 10 rebounds. Forward Amanda Jennings (jr. Turnersville, NJ/Washington Twp.) followed with 16 points.

In the first half, the Lions were ahead 14-10 at 12:03. Guard Danielle Rohe (jr. Dumont, NJ/Dumont) hit a three at 11:10 and the Profs trailed by one (14-13). TCNJ scored 12 straight points in a three minute span to lead by 13 (26-13). Michella contributed with two three-pointers in the run. With 5:02 left, Rowan was down by 12 points (30-18). The Profs had seven unanswered points to cut the deficit to five (30-25) at 2:10. Nimbley made five points and White had two free throws. TCNJ was ahead 35-29 at the break. Michella ended the period with 15 points.

TCNJ was up by 11 points (41-30) after Kutch's jumper at 16:34 in the final half. Nimbley pulled the Profs within four points (46-42) with a basket at 13:36. At 9:54, Rowan was down by three (51-48) after Jennings' made a layup. Nimbley had two free throws at 7:20 and the Profs trailed 56-51. TCNJ went up by 13 points after an 8-1 run that ended at 5:01. Kutch's three with 1:58 remaining made the score 69-55. She also added two free throws (71-57) with 50 seconds on the clock. Kutch compiled 15 second half points while Jennings had 10.

Rowan travels to Ramapo College on Saturday, January 17 for a 1 p.m. game while Rutgers-Newark hosts TCNJ at 5:30 p.m.
