West Chester, PA…The College of New Jersey's men's swimming and diving team competed in a two-day tri-meet at Division II West Chester University and 2008 NCAA Division III National Runner-up, Johns Hopkins University. The Lions would post the program's first ever victory over JHU (206-144), but would see their teams nine-meet dual win streak come to an end with 221-143 loss to Division II, WCU. The Lions are now 7-1 on the year and had won nine meets in a row dating back to the 2007-2008 season which finished on a two-meet win streak.
TCNJ would open the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay as senior
Tom Nawrot (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick), junior
Myles O'Connor (Santa Monica, CA), sophomore
Tom Medvecky (Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway), and sophomore
Shawn Kircher (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) would post the winning time of 1:36.16 in the race.
O'Connor won the 100 breaststroke event with a time of 57.88, while also taking home first in the 200 breaststroke race in 2:11.22.
In the 200 freestyle event, rookie
Mike Vernoia (Hillsborough, NJ/Immaculata) would capture a second place finish in 1:42.31, while senior
Mike Molloy (Toms River, NJ/Toms River East) added a fourth in the 200 freestyle in 1:45.07. In the 100 backstroke race, Nawrot added a second in 53.94, while Vernoia added a second in the 500 freestyle in 4:40.21. Molloy also was fourth place finisher in the 500 freestyle in 4:48.36 after also picking up a second in the 1,650 freestyle competition with a time of 16:40.62.
Sophomore
Tim Rauch (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) added a seventh place finish in the 400 individual medley in 4:19.44, while also taking fourth in the 1,650 freestyle race in 17:07.54.
Medvecky posted a fourth place showing in the 100 butterfly in 52.96. TCNJ's senior
Mike Heaney (Voorhees, NJ/Bishop Eustace) added a third place finish in the 200 individual medley (2:00.36), just ahead of the Lions' rookie,
Ryan Clark (Ocean City, NJ/St. Augustine) who took fourth in 2:00.91.
Additional success was had by Kircher who took fourth in the 50 freestyle event in 22.08, while Medvecky took third in the 200 butterfly in 1:56.13, while Vernoia took fourth in the 100 freestyle (48.44) and Clark added a firth in the race in 48.47.
Molloy and Heaney added a second and third place finish in the 200 backstroke in 1:56.77 and 1:59.66.
In the diving events, TCNJ's rookie
TJ Burns (Clarks Summit, PA/Abington Heights) picked up second on the one meter board (281.45) and a second on the three meter board (282.00).
TCNJ would take second place in four of the relay events at the meet. TCNJ took second in the 200 freestyle race in 1:28.01 behind the efforts of freshman
Kevin Cain (Absecon, NJ/Joly Spirit), Clark, Kircher, and Nawrot, while Kircher, Medvecky, Molloy and Vernoia took a second in the 800 freestyle race in 7:01.49.
Nawrot, O'Connor, Medvecky, and Vernoia picked up second in the 400 medley relay in 3:33.17, while Kircher, Medvecky, Nawrot and Vernoia added a time of 3:12.44 in the 400 freestyle race for a second place finish.
