Ewing, NJ…The College of New Jersey's men's swimming and diving team hosted New York University in a dual meet on Saturday in TCNJ's Aquatic Center. The Lion men would score the 171-123 victory to improve to 8-1 on the year, while the NYU men's squad drops to 6-1-1.
TCNJ opened the day with a win in the 200 medley relay as senior
Tom Nawrot (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick), junior
Myles O'Connor (Santa Monica, CA), sophomore Tom
Medvecky (Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway) and sophomore
Shawn Kircher (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) posted the win in 1:36.08 and also picked up a second and third place showing their other relay foursomes.
Medvecky took a second in the 1,000 freestyle in 9:49.16, while Kircher picked up a second in the 200 freestyle in 1:45.75. Lion rookie
Mike Vernoia (Hillsborough, NJ/Immaculata) won the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:41.75, while O'Connor added the victory for the Lions in the 100 breaststroke in 57.51 and the 200 breaststroke in 2:08.64.
Nawrot won the 100 backstroke in 54.25, while fellow Lion junior
James VanBiervliet (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) was right behind him in second in 54.83.
In the 200 butterfly event, sophomore
Tim Rauch (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) picked up second in 2:00.87, while junior
Herman Chu (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) took third in 2:01.79. Chu would also pick up a second in the 100 butterfly event with a time of 53.69.
Rookie
Ryan Clark (Ocean City, NJ/St. Augustine) finished in second in the 50 freestyle in 21.81, while Kircher took third in 21.96.
Vernoia won the 100 freestyle race in 47.25, while Nawrot took fourth in 48.32. Vernoia added to his banner day with a win in the 500 freestyle race after posting a time of 4:43.15.
Senior
Mike Molloy (Toms River, NJ/Toms River East) picked up first for the Lions in the 200 backstroke race, clocking a time of 1:56.13 while sophomore
Joe Tseng (East Hanover, NJ/Hanover Park) took second in 1:58.53. Tseng finished in second for the Lions in the 200 individual medley in 1:58.73, while Clark took third in 2:01.31.
Rookie diver
TJ Burns (Clarks Summit, PA/Abington Heights) took a first on the one meter board with a score of 240.60, while adding first on the three meter board as well with a score of 243.50.
In the final race of the day, TCNJ would finish in second place in the 400 freestyle relay as freshman

Pete Goldsmith (Easton, PA/Easton Area), Molloy and sophomore
