Glassboro, NJ…The College of New Jersey's men'sswimming and diving team defeated their hosts, the Profs of Rowan University on Saturday to earn the 2008-09 New Jersey Athletic Conference Championship in both sports. The 2008-09 season marked the return of swimming and diving as a league sport.
TCNJ's men's team added the 173-113 win to improve to 10-1 on the year and also a perfect 4-0 in the NJAC. With their win, the Lions earned their third NJAC title and staked their claim to the first NJAC men's swimming championship since the sport was suspended following the 1994-95 championship.
TCNJ's men's team had another banner showing as the Lions wrapped up the dual meet season with a 10-1 record. Over the course of the meet, the Lions won the 400 medley relay as well as the 400 freestyle relay races. On the winning 400 medley relay which posted a time of 3:32.73 were senior

Tom Medvecky (Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway), and rookie
Mike Vernoia (Hillsborough, NJ/Immaculata) as they posted a time of 3:14.10.
Sophomores
Tim Rauch (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) and Medvecky added a victory in the 1,000 freestyle race as they both recorded the winning time of 10:09.70. Rauch also captured a first in the 500 freestyle race with his time of 4:52.20.
Vernoia added the win in the 200 freestyle race in 1:45.53 and Kircher captured gold in the 100 freestyle event in 48.09. Medvecky added a win as well in the 100 butterfly with a time of 52.25.
Senior
Tom Nawrot (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) won the 100 backstroke race in 52.38, while Tseng took second in 54.34. Tseng added a win in the 200 backstroke race for TCNJ with his time of 1:57.61. O'Connor added a winning time in the 100 breaststroke race with a 57.91, while junior
Herman Chu (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) captured the 200 butterfly in 1:59.22.
Rookie
Ryan Clark (Ocean City, NJ/St. Augustine) added the win for the Lions in the 50 freestyle race with his performance of 22.19.
Junior
Eric Rohrs (Congers, NY/Clarkstown High North) picked up the gold in the 200 breaststroke event with a time of 2:14.53, while senior
Mike Heaney (Voorhees, NJ/Bishop Eustace) won the 200 individual medley race with a performance of 2:00.77.
