Michella's career-night leads Lions past RSC, 71-44

Ewing, NJ… The College of New Jersey women's basketball team hosted the Ospreys of Richard Stockton College in the Lions' home NJAC opener on Wednesday night. The Lions would cruise to their fifth win in a row as they beat RSC 71-44 to improve to 8-3 overall and 1-1 in the NJAC. RSC drops to 2-10 overall and 0-3 in the league.

TCNJ's senior guard Alyssa Michella (Washington Township, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy) would finish the night with a career best effort having tallied a game-high 20 points and 15 rebounds netting her first double-double of the year. Michella surpassed her previous highs of 19 points and 13 rebounds with her effort on Wednesday night.

TCNJ would take a 20-2 lead in the first half before the Ospreys went on a 16-4 run. By the break, TCNJ would hold a 35-18 edge as Michella would lead the way with 14 points as she hit 6-0f-10 shot from the floor, while adding seven rebounds in the first stanza.

Junior center Alexandra Gregorek (Mahwah, NJ/Academy of the Holy Angels) would connect for 19 points on the night as she added 11 points in the first half and after having no rebounds in the first half ended the contest with nine caroms.

TCNJ hit 60.0% of their shots in the first half (15-25), while limiting RSC to just 25.0% (8-32) and forcing eight turnovers.

The Lions' sophomore forward Kelsey Kutch (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) also finished in double digits as she added 12 points, while handing out six assists with a pair of blocks and steals.

RSC's rookie center LaTonya Oliver (West Berlin, NJ/Overbrook) finished in double digit scoring in the contest as she had 10 points, while teammate, sophomore forward Kristin Sciarrillo (Edison, NJ/Edison) paced her team as she chipped in eight points, including a team-leading six points in the first half of play. She would foul out with 2:54 left after adding eight points and six rebounds. Sophomore forward Julia Fagan (New Britain, CT/New Britain) added eight points as well for the Ospreys.

By game's end, the Lions would hold a 53-32 edge on the boards and hold RSC to a 30.2% effort from the floor (19-63), including just 9.5% from three-point range (2-21).
TCNJ returns to action on January 10 hosting New Jersey City University in a 1:00 p.m. NJAC contest in Packer Hall, while Richard Stockton College will host the Pioneers of William Paterson University also on January 10 in a 2:00 p.m. league contest.
