Ewing, NJ... Top-ranked Messiah College remained undefeated on the season as the Falcons posted a 6-2 win over The College of New Jersey field hockey team on Saturday in wet conditions at Lions' Stadium.
The win put the Falcons at 15-0 on the season, while the 12th-ranked Lions dipped to 7-5.
The Lions got off to a fast start as Jillian Nealon (Whitehouse Station, NJ/Hunterdon Central) knocked in a nice centering pass from Kellyn Riley (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) for a 1-0 lead. That goal came 2:07 into the game.
Messiah responded with three straight goals with Kourtney Ehly (Boiling Springs, PA/Boiling Springs) tying the game before Lauren Tennis (Lititz, PA/Warwick) put the Falcons in front with another tally three minutes later. Ehly made it a 3-1 with her second goal of the game with that goal coming 14:04 into the contest.
TCNJ fought back and made it a one-goal game as senior Gabby Cafone (Fairfield, NJ/West Essex) poked in a rebound for her fourth goal of the season.
The Falcons made protected that lead in the second half adding three more goals. Scoring in the second half for Messiah were Katie Love (Hockessin, DE/Wilmington Christian), Elizabeth Ziegler (Myerstown, PA/Eastern Lebanon Co.), and Jenna Max (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown).
Sophomore Shannon Syciarz (Garwood, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) finished with seven saves for TCNJ.
In goal for the Falcons, Ashley Mowery (Mechanicsburg, PA/Northern) posted two stops.
TCNJ is right back in action hosting Kean University on Tuesday, October 27 at 7:30 p.m. in a key New Jersey Athletic Conference contest.
