Sewell, NJ…The College of New Jersey women's basketball team pushed its winning streak to five straight as the Lions won their final road game of the regular season with a 67-33 win over Rutgers University-Camden on Wednesday at Gloucester County College.
The win put the Lions at 9-2 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference and 19-4 overall, while the Scarlet Raptors dropped to 2-19 overall and 0-10 in the conference.
After the teams traded buckets in the early going, the Lions went ahead 11-8 before closing out the opening half with a 30-5 run. Senior Alyssa Michella (Washington, Twp., NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy) sparked TCNJ to the lead scoring the Lions' first seven points of the game and led the team with 12 points at the break.
Things were much closer in the second half as the Lions held a slight 26-20 advantage.
Michella led all scorers with 15 points, while sophomore Kelsey Kutch (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) added 12. TCNJ had two other players score in double figures as senior Hillary Klimowicz (Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood) and classmate Lisa Koch (Oak Ridge, NJ/Jefferson Twp.) each finished with 10 points apiece.
For Rutgers-Camden, sophomore Karima Blackwell (Somerdale, NJ/Sterling) finished with a team-high 12 points.
The Lions continue NJAC play on Saturday, February 14 hosting Rowan University at 1 p.m. in Packer Hall, while the Scarlet Raptors head to Kean University to face the Cougars. That game is also slated for 1 p.m.
