Lions down Ursinus for Henderson's 350th career win

Klimowicz continued her assault on the Lions' scoring list with 28.

Ewing, NJ… The College of New Jersey women's basketball team hosted the Bears of Ursinus College on Tuesday night in Packer Hall. TCNJ would collect the 69-58 win and improve to 16-4 overall, while Ursinus drops to 4-14.

The victory marked the 350th career win for TCNJ's head coach Dawn Henderson. Henderson, who has 304 wins in her 16th season at TCNJ, now owns a 350-168 record in 20 seasons as collegiate women's basketball coach.

TCNJ would take a 36-19 lead into the locker room as senior center Hillary Klimowicz (Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood) would pace her team with 12 points as she hit 6-of-7 shots from the floor. By game's end, she would net 28 points, elevating her Lion career total to 1,146. With her performance on Tuesday, she has now moved into the No. 9 spot on TCNJ's women's career scoring list. She passed Adrienne Warner (2000-04), who had been in the No. 9 spot with 1,123 points. Overall on her collegiate career, Klimowicz now has 1,421 points after transferring to TCNJ as a sophomore.

Senior guard Alyssa Michella (Washington Twp., NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy) added 14 points after connecting for nine first-half points as she made three treys and extended her streak of a three-point basket in every game this year (20).

Ursinus got six first-half points from junior forward Julie Bown (Lower Gwynedd, PA/Gwynedd-Mercy Academy), while junior guard Laura Kreiger (Poughkeepsie, NY/Our Lady of Lourdes) added four first-half rebounds. TCNJ would hold a 19-17 edge on the boards in the first stanza, while holding the Bears to just 1-of-7 from three-point range.

Down the stretch, TCNJ would break away and lead by as many 24 points (43-19, 17:30), but Ursinus would keep the contest tight as they trailed by only 10 with 8:30 left to play, down 56-46. The game was still a 10-point game with 5:10 left as the Bears were successful from three-point range (61-51). UC would cut the lead to eight down 61-53 with 4:30 left in the contest as rookie forward Lindsay Teuber (Philadelphia, PA/St. Basil's) hit a key jumper. TCNJ would answer back, but Alli Rosati (Jamison, PA/Central Bucks East) would tally a jumper at 3:13 and make it still an eight-point game.

Bown went to the line to shoot one and one with 2:24 left and converted the first basket and made the score 63-56 TCNJ. Rosati went to the line to shoot two at 1:34 and missed the pair as the Lions owned a 63-56 lead.

Klimowicz went to the line to shoot one and one with 1:19 left and would make the pair as TCNJ owned a 65-56 lead. Teuber would make both of her free throws at 59.4 and make it a 65-58 game. The Lions' sophomore Keri Washington (Ewing, NJ/Pennington Prep) went to the line to shoot a pair at 57.2 and hit the second as TCNJ held a 66-58 lead. Michelle added two more points for TCNJ as she hit both free throws at 36.2 and Washington made one as well at 33.7 as the Lions held a 69-58 lead.

By game's end, Bown would finish with 19 points, while Rosati added 12 points and a team-high six rebounds. Rookie guard Kristy George (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) added 10 points with three steals and was 3-3 from the line.

Ursinus shot 55.6% from three-point range in the second half (5-9) while also making 8-11 of their free throws in the second stanza. TCNJ would go cold from downtown as they made just one of four attempts from beyond the arch.

TCNJ returns to action on February 5 as they will visit Elizatbethtown College for a 7:00 p.m. non-conference game, while Ursinus College travels to Washington College, also on February 5 for a 7 p.m. Centennial Conference contest.
