Men's Tennis tallies key regional victory over Vassar

Jeremy Eckardt added a key regional win for the Lions

Orlando, FL –The College of New Jersey men's tennis team posted an 8-1 win over regional foes, Vassar College on Thursday as the Lions wrapped up play on their training trip in Florida. Ranked No. 29 in Division III, TCNJ has now won five of their last six matches and stands at 5-1 overall, while Vassar drop to 6-4.

The Lions' junior Jeremy Eckardt (Belle Mead, NJ/Montgomery) recorded a key win over regionally ranked junior Michael Mattelson (Great Neck, NY) at first singles. Mattelson was ranked 16th in the final regional fall poll.

TCNJ's rookie Steven Fernandez (West Windsor, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro South) added two wins for the Lions as he was a winner at fourth singles and teamed with sophomore Jonathan Yu (Hamilton Square, NJ/Steinert) for a win at No. 2 doubles for the Lions. Freshman Dan Lee (Abington, PA/Abington) added a win at sixth singles and teamed at third doubles with rookie Bill Carrig (Shamong, NJ/Seneca) for another win.

TCNJ's rookie Edgar Shanoyan (Montvale, NJ/Pascack) added a win at fifth singles to improve to 6-0 for the Lions.
