TCNJ pitchers fire another no-hitter, cap Florida trip on winning note

Jamie Moir contributed to TCNJ's second no-hitter of the week.

Clermont, FL…The College of New Jersey softball team capped its Florida trip with two more wins as the Lions cruised past Bates College by the score of 13-1 and held off Bethel University, 2-1 on Saturday.

TCNJ finished the trip with a 4-6 record, finishing strong with three wins in their final four games.

The win over Bates marked the second time this week that a pair of pitchers teamed up for a five-inning no-hitter. Junior Ashley Minervini (Cliffside Park, NJ/Cliffside Park) hurled the first four innings before sophomore Jamie Moir (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) came in to pitch the fifth and final inning.

Next up for TCNJ is their home opener on Wednesday, March 18 as they host Gwynedd-Mercy College for a doubleheader at Lions' Park. The first game gets underway at 3 p.m.

The Lions got their bats going early and often scoring seven times in the opening inning and then adding four more runs in the third.

Junior Ellen Seavers (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) sparked the attack at the plate going 3-for-3 with two runs scored and a pair of runs batted in. Sophomore Colleen Cawley (Riverton, NJ/Holy Cross) also had a solid game finishing 2-for-4 knocking in three runs, including a two-run single in the fourth inning.

Freshman pitcher Lauren Fitzsimmons (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) picked up her first collegiate win for the Lions allowing only an unearned run with six strikeouts.

Minervini closed out the game facing four batters in the seventh to pick up the save.

TCNJ plated its first win the third as Seavers scored on an error, while Cawley scored in the fifth on a ground out by freshman Katelyn Congilose (Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan).

Congilose and junior Danielle Hagel (Egg Harbor City, NJ/Oakcrest) each finished with a pair of hits for the Lions.
