Seldeen and Mitchell pace Lions past No. 15 Cortland

Ewing, NJ…The College of New Jersey women's lacrosse team posted a 16-10 home win over the No. 15 ranked Red Dragons of SUNY Cortland on Saturday afternoon. TCNJ, which is ranked fifth in Division III, improves to 4-0, while Cortland drops to 2-2.

TCNJ's sophomore Leigh Mitchell (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) would pace the Lions with her five goals and two assists, while junior Lisa Seldeen (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) added five goals as well. TCNJ jumped out to a 3-0 lead before sophomore Megan Clare (Shirley, NY/William Floyd) put the Red Dragons on the scoreboard.

TCNJ would take a 7-1 lead at the break, but Cortland would tack on nine second half goals, and pulled within three goals of the Lions in the opening stretch of the second half as they rattled off four straight goals and were down 8-5 with 20:50 left in the game. Senior Danielle Torre (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) would add two goals in the run and by game's end elevated her season total to a team-leading 12 goals.

TCNJ's Leigh Mitchell has taken over the Lions' scoring race on the young season as she has connected for 14 goals with seven assists, good enough for 21 points, while Seldeen now has 11 goals and 12 points. Adding a pair of goals each for the Lions were sophomore Alison Jaeger (Hampton, NJ/North Hunterdon) and senior Katie Reuther (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North), while Reuther added two assists for four points on the day.

In goal for the Lions, sophomore Mary Waller (Bel Air, MD/C. Milton Wright) made four saves for her third straight win.

For the Red Dragons, Amanda Caloia (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) had 17 saves and is now 2-2 in goal.

The Lions return to the road on Tuesday, March 24 heading to the College of Mount St. Vincent for a 4 p.m. start. The Red Dragons are also in action that day as they face another tough test heading to top-ranked Hamilton College.
