Ewing, NJ…The College of New Jersey softball team saw its impressive scoreless streak at home come to an end as the Lions split a doubleheader with visiting Kean University on Tuesday. TCNJ won the first game, while the Cougars took the second 2-1 scoring both of their runs in their final at bat.
Kean scored both of their runs in the seventh inning marking the first time this season the Lions have been scored on at home. TCNJ started the year with five straight shutout wins at Lions' Park and didn't allow a run for the first 38.1 innings.
The split put the Lions at 11-11 overall and 2-2 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference, while the Cougars are also 2-2 in conference play and 10-10 overall.
The Lions resume New Jersey Athletic Conference play on Saturday, April 4 hosting Rutgers University-Newark in a doubleheader at 1 p.m., while the Cougars return home to face Richard Stockton College in a twin bill.

The Lions scored the game's only run in the bottom of the sixth inning as freshman Crystal Lee (Dover, NJ/Morris Knolls) singled and advanced to third on a two-base error. She then scored on a fielder's choice by sophomore Colleen Cawley (Riverton, NJ/Holy Cross) beating the throw to the plate.
The Cougars came close to getting on the board in the top of the sixth getting the bases loaded with one out. Lion sophomore Jamie Moir (Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape) entered the game in relief for TCNJ and kept Kean off the board getting out of the jam.
Moir earned the win with two innings of scoreless relief finishing with four strikeouts. Junior Ashley Minervini (Cliffside Park, NJ/Cliffside Park) got the start for TCNJ and fired five scoreless innings.
Kean's Cassie Shotwell (Dunellen, NJ/Dunellen) suffered the loss despite pitching a strong game allowing only three hits and the unearned run.

The teams locked up in another pitching duel in the second game as TCNJ's Lauren Fitzsimmons (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) and Kean's Courtney Smyth (Abington, PA/Abington) each kept runs to a minimum.
The Lions were able to break through in the fifth inning as Caitlyn Seamster (Edison, NJ/John P. Stevens) singled and circled the bases to score on a double by junior Ellen Seavers (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood).
The Cougars then took their only lead of the day in the bottom of the seventh as Sara Steinman (Springfield, NJ/Jonathan Dayton) scored on a wild pitch before Lindsay Kennedy (Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany) brought home the deciding run with a two-out single.
Smyth picked her third win of the season, while Fitzsimmons suffered her third loss.
