DiColo remains in the hunt at NCAA Championships

Cedar Rapids, Iowa… Senior Dan DiColo (Budd Lake, NJ/Mt. Olive) remains in the hunt to earn All-American honors as he is alive in the consolation bracket at 157 pounds at the 2009 NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships.

The NCAA Tournament concludes tomorrow at the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

DiColo opened the tournament knocking off fourth-seeded Andrew Goldstein from Gettysburg by the score of 7-6. The Lion then fell in the quarterfinals to fifth-seeded Jesse Milks from the University of Wisconsin – Platteville, nearly pulling off another upset falling by a narrow 4-3 margin. Things don't get any easier for DiColo in his next bout facing this third straight seeded opponent. Next up is sixth-seeded Erik Hanson from Loras College.

Senior Tyler Branham (Newton, NJ/Kittatinny) dropped his first match of the tournament at 149 pounds to Andrew Gardella of Case Western Reserve University by the score of 12-2. He then bounced back to hold off Bridgewater State's Frank Cammisa, 2-1. The then took on eighth-seeded Erik Smith of Wilkes University and fell 5-1 closing out his season.

At 165 pounds, sophomore Justin Bonitatis (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East) fell by fall to Christopher Dahlheimer of Lycoming in 4:02 putting him in the consolation bracket. Bonitatis then faced Patrick Nagel from the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater and dropped an 8-2 decision.

Freshman Scott Kelley (Vineland, NJ/Sacred Heart) battled eighth-seeded Dustin Baxter of St. John's (MN) University in the first round of bouts at 184 pounds, but Baxter was able to hold on for a 6-2 win. Kelley then fell to Wheaton's Toby Holtz by the score of 9-3.

Freshman Ed Broderick (Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Regional) dropped his opening match at 197 pounds as he fell to seventh-seeded Rob Kramer of Coe College by fall in 1:35. In the consolation bracket, Broderick lost to Joseph Silverman of MIT by the score of 8-1.
