DiColo takes sixth at NCAAs to earn All-American honors

Cedar Rapids, Iowa… The path to earning All-American honors at the 2009 NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships for The College of New Jersey's Dan DiColo (Budd Lake, NJ/Mt. Olive) was not an easy one. In five of his six matches at the tournament, DiColo faced an opponent who was seeded, but the battled his way through his tough draw to a sixth-place finish becoming the program's 134th All-American.

After splitting his first two matches of the tournament at 157 pounds, DiColo advanced in the consolation bracket with 7-6 win over sixth-seeded Erik Hanson from Loras College. DiColo scored the deciding points in the final seconds of the match to advance.

Next up was eighth-seeded William Horwath of Ithaca College and Lion senior responded with a 5-0 victory. That win put him in the consolation bracket semifinals against third-seeded Jason Adams from Augsburg College and Adams was able to get past DiColo by the score of 8-0. In the fifth-place bout, DiColo again faced a wrestler who was seeded, falling to fifth-seeded Jesse Milks from the University of Wisconsin – Platteville, 4-2.

He finished the season 31-7 marking the second straight year he has hit the 30-win plateau.

The NCAA Tournament was held at the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
